Even when buying online from e-tailors such as Amazon.com (link to Frontline Page) or 1800petmeds.com. I have bought my last 3 years worth of flea and tick medicine from Ebay.

I happened to stumble across Frontline Plus on Ebay when searching for “flea killer” on the internet. I saw the stuff in the pet stores but it was so expensive. I couldn’t believe how cheap it was, so I took the chance and bought some. Simply, it works great. I was a little scared it was going to be junk, but as soon as I put it on my dog the scratching stopped.

I never thought twice about buying it from Ebay before until my vet said it was all fake medicine and didn’t work. She said that last year, when I brought my dog in for a visit.

First of all, I would never buy it at the vets. They totally rip customers off with really high prices. Secondly, since I’ve been using Frontline plus from Ebay for 3 years, I knew for a fact that is does work.

Sure, there are probably some people that are ripping people off, but if you follow normal safe bidding practices of making sure the seller has a good reputation and feedback you should be safe.

Buyer Tips

Don’t “buy it now” unless it is extremely cheap. You will probably find it cheaper on Amazon.com

Make sure the seller has a good reputation.

Make sure the product has free shipping – Since the new standard on Ebay is free shipping, don’t let a seller sneak that into the overall price.

Seller Tips

This is a good little niche that you can jump into to and make some decent income. I found the best prices for Frontline Plus at Amazon.com. Around $28.12 for 3 doses for a 70 pound dog. Searching completed items on Ebay I found some sales around $50-75 dollars for the same product. That’s a pretty good profit margin if you buy from Amazon and then resell the product on Ebay, but there is a lot of competition so you won’t sell every listing.

In summary, don’t be scared to buy Frontline Plus for dogs or cats on Ebay. Most likely it is the real thing and will work on your dog or cat. Don’t overpay and don’t pay for shipping. Remember if you get a good deal, contact the seller and see if you can buy more at the same price in the same order. Instead of 3 doses (1.5 months for my dog) try to get a full year. If you buy it at $20 for 3 doses, it’s well worth trying to get more.

To feature an auction on Ebay costs a lot more then normal Ebay listings, but you have to do it on at least one auction listed at a time. Without the featured auctions your listing traffic will be non-existent and cause your other auctions to sell for much less.

A good strategy for featuring an auction is to list a product or service that is very cheap, very popular and you have a lot of them. It is not a good idea to feature a single product for really low, and then try to sell the same product in your store or normal listing for much higher. The buyers will just wait out the featured auction and then see what the item sells for.

Here is a strategy I used a few years ago while selling DVD’s in Ebay

Tons of auctions. I listed at least 100 DVD’s a day. All starting at 1 penny, with a very reasonable $5.25 shipping and handling charge.

I did not combine shipping. You might think I got a lot of complaints when people bought 4 DVD’s from me for 4 cents and $20 shipping, but they all knew that they were getting a good deal.

If I sold a DVD for a penny, I made about $2.00 in profit after S/h and inventory costs so I need to sell as many as I could each day.

I listed a feature auction every other day which was a good deal and had high visibility. It was for $1.98 for a DVD, free shipping, and I gave them a list of about 20 DVD’s they could get. If a customer bought just one DVD, I broke even…If they bought more then one, I could ship together and make a small profit, but in general this featured auction was just to get people to look at my other items for sale.

I sold about 80% of the listings per day for around $1.25 each (plus S/h). About 40% where multiple orders which raised the profit margin because my shipping costs went down. I offered a free DVD on multiple orders, (buy 5 get 1 free).

This equaled about $300-$350/per day in sales

I explained this to my friends and they jumped onto eBay to sell DVD’s and CD’s, but they all had problems, because they never placed featured auctions to drive the traffic to their other Ebay auctions… they were just too stingy, but in the end they didn’t sell anything and ended up wholesaling their lots on Ebay.

The open business model of Ebay has many pros and cons. One one hand if you think another seller is doing well and found a profitable niche, you can easily do a little research on ebay and through external Ebay tools to find exactly how that seller is running their business. On the other hand, if you’re that seller that found a cash cow, there is not much you can do about people stealing your business ideas.

When I first started on Ebay, I imported a new product from china for about $1.o0 per item. I was selling them on Ebay for around $20.00… Within 3 months the price dropped to about $5.00 per item from all the competition. I’m 100% sure it was from the ability of other sellers to see what I was selling and how well it sold!

one way to combat people doing research on your Ebay business is to make your feedback private. You will still be able to see all your feedbacks, but buyers and sellers won’t be able to see what product each feedback was issued for.

As you can see, you still get the benefit of positive Ebay feedbacks, but people can’t see that you sell one item more then others.

Private feedback also helps if you have high priced products and very low priced products. For example, if you sell a digital product for 99 cents, and sell a lot of them, you will get a ton of feedbacks which in turn makes your high end products look like they sell better.

There are two types of private feedbacks.

full user account privacy – with this option you cannot sell items on ebay. You can only buy items. Your feedback will not bepublic at all, but the public can still see your over all feedback score.

private listings – this helps keep your buyers anonymous and helps protect your business. The public can still see your feedback, but cannot see what item was purchased. This is the level of privacy you want.

To create a private listing, select the “Private listing” check box in the Choose how you’d like to sell your item section of the Sell Your Item form.

Why do some Ebay Powersellers seems to always have a ton of bids and sell their items for higher. You watch their items and even use Ebay’s free tools to try to get an insight into why they seems to dominate the category that you are in. You’re losing money and you need to turn the ship around, fast.

What would happen if you got 3 times as much traffic to your auction listings? Of course you would sell more items and get more customers. So why don’t you go find those new customers that are not on Ebay yet? By starting a simple blog about the items you sell, you will reach a much larger audience then just the Ebay crowd… Not to mention that Ebay’s traffic is on decline.

Benefits of blogging about your Auctions

Better search engine visibility – You will have much better results in Google, Yahoo and MSN becuase you can control the keywords and SEO for your auctions. Ebay has really bad SEO for your items. All you have to do it start a blog and you will be able to get organic traffic from the search engines to your auctions.

You can sell directly from your blog – My blog of choice is wordpress which comes with many free plugins that allow you to run an ecommerce store from your blog, or even auction off your items from your blog.

Everything you write on your blog can be syndicated to other social media sites that have lots of people on them. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, etc… can all automatically get your blog posts and reach even more people.

You build your brand – this is probably the most important aspect of blogging, because you can get a large following and create authority. The more you demonstrate your expertise about the products you sell, the more people will trust they are buying from a reputable seller.

As you see by starting a blog has many benefits. Not only from a “buy it now” point of view, but also for long term selling relationships. It is a known fact that it costs many times more to secure a first time customer then it is to maintain a repeat buyer.

If you are new to blogging, you really need to learn how to do it. It’s not that hard, and it’s really similar to writing an email. The really cool thing about blogging your ebay Ebay items is that you can get good search engine placement for you products, meaning when someone searches for your products you have a better chance of getting found. They won’t find you Ebay auctions, but they will find your blog and then you can either guide them to your Ebay auctions, or better yet, sell to them directly from your website.

where can you start a blog?

Blogging community built around Ebay – For example, dailyebaytip.com We have free blogs that are built around selling on Ebay. you can list your items directly on the blog, start an e-commerce shopping cart, and maintain your brand because you control the colors, images, and layouts on your website. You can even add your own domain name. For more information or to start now, click here.

Start your own self hosted blog. This involves starting a hosting account and then installing blogging software. You will have much more control over a self hosted blog, and you can use the hosting account to store images of your products.

use a community blog site like wordpress.com, blogger.com, etc… Very easy to set up and blog, but you find it very difficult to highlight your active listings on these types of blogs. We recommend that if you go with a community blog platform, you should go with one that is focused primarily on Ebay blogging.

In Summary, blogging is an easy and fun way to create authority and expertise about your products or services. You’ll get more traffic from search engines and other social media sites. In return the more traffic you generate to your auctions the more items you will sell, guaranteed!
